Fireworks vs. cold pyrotechnics — what's the difference: Traditional fireworks are aerial explosive displays requiring permits and clear skies. Cold pyrotechnics (also called cold spark machines or indoor sparklers) are ground-level metallic spark effects that are safe for indoor use, do not require the same permits, and work regardless of wind. Both create a dramatic visual moment. At outdoor venues with clear skies, traditional fireworks are more spectacular. 80% Resort-Stay Requirement

At least 80% of all wedding guests must be registered guests staying at the resort. For a 50-guest wedding, 40 must be in-resort guests. The remaining 20% can attend as day-pass guests. Day-pass rates are confirmed at time of booking.

Deposit to Hold Date

A $500–$800 deposit is required to secure your wedding date at Paradisus. The amount varies by property — $500 at most Mexico properties, $800 at Palma Real. The deposit is applied to your final balance.

External Supplier Fee

Paradisus works with a certified local vendor list. If you bring a photographer, videographer, or other vendor not on the approved list, an external supplier fee applies. The fee varies by property — at some it is $1,000 USD. Confirm with VFL before booking your photographer.

Weather Contingency

The wedding cannot be canceled due to rain — it will be moved to an alternate indoor venue (Ballroom or equivalent). All Aboard yacht ceremonies have a resort contingency venue if weather prevents yacht departure. Contingency venue is confirmed in the event contract.

Entertainment Curfew

Outdoor venues generally enforce an 11 PM entertainment curfew. Indoor Ballroom venues may allow entertainment until 10 PM or later. La Esmeralda / La Perla's Cypress Ballroom permits entertainment until 3 AM — the latest curfew of any venue in the Paradisus portfolio. Confirm with VFL for your specific venue and date.

DR $800 Surcharge (Palma Real only)

The Dominican Republic charges a mandatory $800 government fee for legal civil ceremonies. This applies only at Palma Real — all Mexico properties have no surcharge. Symbolic ceremony avoids the fee entirely and is visually identical. All Aboard at Palma Real is a symbolic ceremony — no surcharge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I upgrade my package after I've booked?
Yes — package upgrades are generally possible up to a certain point before the wedding date, subject to the resort's availability for the upgraded elements (live music, fireworks permits, yacht availability for All Aboard). Downgrades are more restricted once contracts are signed. VFL advises on the upgrade timeline at your specific property during the planning process. Book the package you're confident about rather than booking low and assuming you can upgrade — the upgrade path is not always guaranteed.
What's the difference between a symbolic and a legal ceremony — and does it affect which package I choose?
All five Paradisus packages include a symbolic ceremony by default — the Minister of Peace performs a ceremony that is visually and emotionally identical to a legal ceremony but has no legal standing in Mexico or the Dominican Republic. A legal civil ceremony (using a civil judge) is available as an add-on at all Mexico properties at an additional charge. In the Dominican Republic (Palma Real), legal civil ceremonies also carry the mandatory $800 government surcharge.
