Paradisus All Aboard Yacht Wedding — Complete Guide 2026

Exchange vows on the open sea at golden hour — the Paradisus All Aboard package is the most distinctive wedding ceremony experience in any all-inclusive portfolio. Available at three properties on three different bodies of water at three dramatically different price points: Paradisus Palma Real (Caribbean Sea · Punta Cana · $13,000), Paradisus Cancún (Caribbean Sea · Hotel Zone · $14,000), and Paradisus Los Cabos (Sea of Cortez · Baja · $32,000). Complete guide to what happens, what's included, how to choose, photographer logistics, weather planning, and everything else couples need to know before booking.

Updated July 2026  ·  Available at Paradisus Palma Real · Paradisus Cancún · Paradisus Los Cabos

All Aboard is NOT available at Paradisus La Esmeralda or Paradisus La Perla (Playa del Carmen). If you want a yacht ceremony and are considering the PDC complex, speak with VFL about third-party charter options. This guide covers only the three properties where the package is offered.

What Is the All Aboard Ceremony?

All Aboard is Paradisus by Meliá's signature wedding package — the only major all-inclusive brand in Mexico and the Caribbean that offers a yacht ceremony as a named, packaged product rather than a custom add-on. The concept: instead of exchanging vows on the beach or in a resort gazebo, you board a private yacht or sailboat and sail to open water. The ceremony happens at sea, timed to coincide with the golden hour — the 45–60 minutes before sunset when the light turns amber and the horizon glows. The boat returns to the marina after the ceremony, and the reception continues at the resort.

The yacht is decorated for the ceremony — arch, flowers, fabric, and décor carried aboard. A minister performs the symbolic ceremony on deck. Champagne is poured immediately after the vows. Guests take in the horizon as the vessel sails back at dusk. The reception that follows at the resort is a private dinner, seamlessly continuing the evening. The experience is structurally a two-part wedding day: the ceremony at sea, the celebration on land.

What makes All Aboard genuinely different from a beach ceremony: A beach ceremony at sunset is beautiful — but it happens at a fixed backdrop that every other couple at that resort also uses. The All Aboard ceremony happens on moving water with a 360-degree open horizon. There is no hotel building, no pool deck, no other guests in the background. The vessel is entirely yours. The light changes as the sun drops. The ceremony photographs from any direction and shows only sea and sky. For couples who want a ceremony setting that is visually unlike anything they've seen in a destination wedding album — the yacht is that setting.

The $18,000 question — when does Los Cabos justify the premium? Los Cabos at $32,000 is $19,000 more than Palma Real and $18,000 more than Cancún for the same 30-guest yacht ceremony concept. The premium is justified when: (1) the Baja desert backdrop is the specific aesthetic you want — the Sea of Cortez landscape is genuinely unlike any Caribbean setting; (2) your guests are predominantly West Coast U.S. and flights to SJD are simpler than to CUN or PUJ; (3) the Gastro Bar by Berasategui matters as a dining experience — no other all-inclusive in Los Cabos offers Michelin-star cuisine; or (4) the adults-only 18+ commitment throughout the entire resort is non-negotiable for your group. If none of those four apply, the Caribbean versions at $13K–$14K deliver the same ceremony concept at a fraction of the cost.

How the All Aboard Wedding Day Flows

The All Aboard wedding day has a distinctive two-part structure — the ceremony at sea, the reception on land. Understanding the flow helps couples plan hair/makeup timing, guest transportation to the marina, and the reception venue setup window.

1

Bridal Preparation

Hair, makeup, and final prep at resort. Bridal Suite (Cancún/Palma Real) or suite. Allow extra time — photos happen before boarding.

2

Pre-Boarding Photos

Couple portraits at resort before guests board. Outdoor light is ideal mid-afternoon before marina transfer.

3

Transfer to Marina

Coordinator arranges transportation for the full group to the marina. Typically 15–30 min from the resort depending on property.

4

Board the Yacht

Guests and couple board the private vessel. Décor, arch, and florals are already set. Welcome drinks typically served as guests settle.

5

Ceremony at Sea

Vessel sails to open water. Minister performs the ceremony at golden hour. Champagne toast immediately following. 30–45 min total ceremony window on water.

6

Return & Reception

Vessel returns to marina at dusk. Group transfers to resort. Private dinner reception begins — open bar, gourmet dinner, and celebration until curfew.

Timing the All Aboard correctly: The ceremony must be timed so the vessel is at sea during golden hour — the 45–60 minutes before local sunset. This requires boarding approximately 90 minutes before sunset to allow for marina departure, sailing to position, and the ceremony itself. Your wedding coordinator at the resort builds the timeline backward from the sunset time on your specific date. Sunset times vary significantly by season — June sunsets in Cancún are around 7:45 PM; December sunsets are around 5:45 PM. This affects your reception start time and curfew planning significantly. VFL confirms the timeline for your exact date at your chosen property.

Photography on the Yacht — What Couples Need to Know

Photographing a ceremony on a moving yacht is one of the most rewarding and technically challenging shoots a wedding photographer can do. The light is extraordinary at golden hour on open water — but the physical constraints of a vessel require a photographer who has shot on boats before. This section covers what to expect and how to plan.

What Works Well

  • 360° open-horizon ceremony backdrop — no hotel buildings
  • Golden hour light on water is exceptional for portraits
  • Intimate setting — small guest count means everyone is close
  • Sunset backdrop behind the ceremony arch
  • Post-ceremony champagne toast with horizon shots
  • Dramatic silhouettes against the setting sun

Challenges to Prepare For

  • Moving deck — tripods don't work; all handheld
  • Wind — hair, veil, and bouquet are in constant motion
  • Limited deck space — photographer has restricted angles
  • Sea spray — equipment moisture protection essential
  • Guests moving = boat movement = blur risk
  • No option to reshoot a missed moment — ceremony is live

VFL Recommendations

  • Request a photographer with documented yacht/boat experience
  • Check the external supplier fee situation early — book accordingly
  • Consider a second photographer for more coverage angles
  • Embrace the wind in the veil — it makes the images dynamic
  • Do bridal portraits at the resort before boarding
  • Drone footage (if permitted at the marina) captures the full vessel scale
External supplier photographer fee reminder: All three Paradisus properties that offer All Aboard have an external supplier fee for photographers and videographers not on the approved vendor list. The fee can be up to $1,000 USD depending on the property. If your chosen photographer is not on the list, budget this fee in addition to the photographer's rate. VFL advises on the current approved vendor list at your chosen property — many approved photographers specialize in exactly this kind of maritime ceremony and have their own portfolio of All Aboard shoots.

Weather Planning — When to Book by Property

All three All Aboard properties have weather contingency plans — if the vessel cannot safely depart due to sea conditions, the ceremony moves to a pre-arranged resort venue. But most couples want to maximize the chances of actually being on the water. Here's how to think about season by property.

Month Palma Real (Caribbean DR) Cancún (Caribbean MX) Los Cabos (Sea of Cortez)
Jan–Mar✓ Excellent · dry season · calm✓ Excellent · dry · light winds✓ Excellent · calmest seas · cool evenings
Apr–May✓ Very good · pre-rainy season✓ Very good · warm · calm✓ Good · slight wind increase
Jun–Jul⚠ Acceptable · brief afternoon rain possible · calm seas⚠ Hurricane season begins · contingency on standby⚠ Chubasco wind season begins · higher risk
Aug–Oct⚠ Rainy season · afternoon showers · seas generally calm⚠ Peak hurricane season · contingency likely needed some dates⚠ Highest Chubasco risk · rougher Sea of Cortez
Nov–Dec✓ Good · dry season begins✓ Good · hurricane season ends · calm returns✓ Good · seas calm again · cooler evenings
Best months for All Aboard at each property: Palma Real: January–May and November–December — the DR's dry season produces reliably calm Caribbean seas year-round, but the rainy season (Aug–Oct) brings afternoon showers. Seas remain calm even during rain. Cancún: November–May — avoid July–October (peak hurricane season). If you must book June–October, the contingency resort venue is available, and most Cancún hurricane-season weddings proceed normally as actual hurricane landfalls are relatively rare. Los Cabos: October–May — the Sea of Cortez Chubasco season (June–September) brings strong afternoon winds that can make vessel departure inadvisable. The October–May window is the safest for the yacht ceremony at Los Cabos.
If weather prevents the yacht from departing: The wedding coordinator at each property maintains a contingency plan — typically a beach or Ballroom ceremony at the resort. The contingency plan is documented in the event contract before the wedding. The ceremony still happens and the full package inclusions (champagne, dinner reception, spa ritual, etc.) still apply. The one element that changes is the ceremony location. VFL ensures the contingency plan is clearly defined in your contract.

All Aboard vs. Land Ceremony — Is the Yacht Right for You?

All Aboard is not for every couple. Here's an honest comparison to help you decide.

Factor All Aboard (Yacht) Land Ceremony (Beach/Gazebo)
Visual setting360° open water horizon — uniqueBeach, garden, or gazebo — more expected
Guest count flexibility30 guests included — vessel capacity limits scaleUp to 200–1,000 at resort venues
Weather dependenceHigh — vessel departure weather-dependentLower — outdoor curfew applies but no vessel departure risk
PhotographyGolden hour light is exceptional — but technically challengingMore predictable lighting conditions
Guest experienceUnique shared experience — guests remember the boat foreverFamiliar — beautiful but not uncommon
LogisticsMarina transfer · boarding · vessel timingWalk from room to venue — simpler
Accessibility (mobility)Boat access requires physical mobilityFully accessible venues available at resort
Price$13,000–$32,000 base$0–$12,000 (complimentary through Go Out With A Bang)
DistinctivenessAlmost no one else at the resort is doing thisShared with other couples at the property
Who All Aboard is definitively right for: Couples who want a ceremony experience that guests will talk about for decades — not just "we went to a wedding in Cancún" but "we were on a boat in the Caribbean at sunset while they got married." Couples with guest lists of 10–30 intimate guests (the vessel capacity is a constraint, not a limitation, if you have a small group). Couples with flexibility on a 30-minute weather window. Couples for whom ceremony photos are a high priority (the light on open water at golden hour is genuinely extraordinary). Couples who have already done a beach wedding and want something categorically different the second time.

Who should choose a land ceremony instead: Couples with 50+ guests who want the whole group at the ceremony (the boat fits 30). Couples where any guest has limited mobility that would make boarding a vessel difficult. Couples who are primarily budget-driven — Go Out With A Bang at $9,000–$12,000 delivers fireworks, a DJ, and a couples spa for significantly less. Couples whose ceremony backdrop preference is the iconic Kanna Bridge (available at La Esmeralda/La Perla — not at All Aboard properties).

Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests can actually fit on the yacht?
The All Aboard package includes 30 guests — the vessel capacity that Paradisus includes in the base package price. Additional guests beyond 30 are priced at $250/extra (Palma Real) or $280/extra (Cancún). The physical capacity of the yacht varies — most vessels used for these packages are private sailing yachts or motor yachts that comfortably accommodate 30–50 people for a ceremony setting. At 30 guests everyone has a good view. Beyond 40–45 it becomes more crowded depending on the vessel. VFL confirms the exact vessel type and comfortable capacity for your property and date.
Is the All Aboard ceremony legally binding?
No — All Aboard is a symbolic ceremony only at all three properties. It has no legal standing in Mexico or the Dominican Republic. The Minister of Peace performs a ceremony that is emotionally and visually identical to a legal wedding, but no legal documentation is produced. Couples who want a legal marriage must either legally marry at home before or after the trip, or separately arrange a civil judge for a legal ceremony at the resort in addition to the All Aboard. For Palma Real (Dominican Republic), legal civil ceremonies also carry the $800 DR government surcharge — but this does not apply to the All Aboard symbolic ceremony.
What happens to the reception décor if we're doing the ceremony on the boat?
The reception at the resort is set up by the resort events team while the yacht ceremony is underway at sea. When your group returns from the marina, the reception venue is fully dressed and ready. This is a logistical advantage of the two-part structure — the ceremony and reception setup happen simultaneously in different locations. Your wedding coordinator manages the timing so the reception is dinner-ready by the time the group walks from the marina transfer back to the resort venue.
Can guests who are not staying at the resort attend the All Aboard yacht ceremony?
The 80% resort-stay policy applies to the overall wedding guest count — at least 80% of all guests must be staying at the resort. Day-pass guests (the remaining 20%) can attend the reception on resort grounds. Whether day-pass guests can board the vessel for the yacht ceremony is subject to the resort's policy and the marina's access rules — VFL confirms the specific terms for your property and date. In most cases, all guests on the vessel are resort-staying guests. If you have important non-staying guests you want at the ceremony, plan for a 30-guest vessel with only staying guests, and ensure those guests are booked into the resort.
Is the All Aboard available year-round, or are there seasonal booking restrictions?
The package is available for booking year-round at all three properties. However, the weather risk varies significantly by season — see the Weather Planning section above for month-by-month guidance. The resort can book the All Aboard in any month; whether the vessel actually departs on your specific date depends on sea conditions on that day. The contingency resort ceremony covers you if the vessel cannot depart. For the highest probability of actually being on the water, book between November and May at all three properties.
